Taigh Whin is a holiday home situated between majestic mountains and sandy shores in the village of Glenelg on the west coast of Scotland.

We offer low-cost holiday accommodation to anyone working for the common good in Scotland. You might be a campaigner or a carer, a community leader or a wildlife volunteer, a public or third sector worker, an artist or an activist. You might be looking for space and time to complete some work or plan a new project. Or maybe you just need somewhere to press pause, get some rest and enjoy the deep nourishment that only time spent in nature can offer. Most of our guests come through our partner organisations across Scotland, but we also welcome self-referrals.

Accommodation is available in two beautiful low-impact buildings with panoramic views in every direction. The house sleeps up to four while the bothy is designed for one or two. You can find out more about the background to the project here and details about staying with us here.

Taigh Whin restores your faith in everything that’s good, beautiful, hopeful and generous in the world.

Taigh Whin is run by partners Sarah MacLaren and Sophie Howarth, and was born of our shared love of wild places and commitment to social justice.

Following the Covid pandemic, and in the light of the rising cost of living and soaring cost of holiday accommodation in Scotland, we wanted to create a place where the people who do most for others can rest and recover. Too often it’s those who care the most also rest the least, and we know that when good people get burnt out, no one is helped.
